Hey guys, let’s chat:
As promised, I’m featuring African American designers that are showcasing this week at NYFW. (I am trying something new and sharing these post on my website for now on. I realize that some of my spies aren’t my friend on social media so I couldn’t leave you out on the fashion tea.)
Let’s get into it, today will be talking about LaQuan Smith. LaQuan Smith is a luxury women’s wear designer. He was born Aug 30. 1988 in Queens, NewYork.
Smith began sewing at the age of 13; after, his grandmother passed on her sewing machine to him.
In 2005, he tried attending well-known fashion schools like Parson and the fashion institute of technology but he wasn’t accepted. Instead of giving up, he interned for a New York magazine by the name of Blackbook and while working for celebrity stylist Elizabeth Sulcer.
Fast forward to 2008, he launched his clothing line which is self-entitled LaQuan Smith. In 2010, he debuted for the first time at NYFW for the society of illustrators. This show was filled with celebrities, press, and buyers. However, the editor at large for Vogue magazine, Andre Leon Talley was also in the audience.
Since then he has been debuting in NYFW and holding his own shows which Serena Williams, Deborah Cox, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Christian Milian, Nicki Minaj, and many others have walked in his shows.
Check out some of my favorite looks from his Spring 2020 show.
